Top 10 richest Comedians in Nigeria for 2022.

Comedy is a lucrative career path in Nigeria and globally. Particularly with the crowds that gather for comedy nights and stand-up comedy events.

Majorly, Nigerians love to laugh, especially with the many foes that have befallen the country; thus, humor has been adopted as a coping mechanism.

Some 60 years ago, the commercialization of the comedy industry was non-existent. Today, it is the 3rd largest Entertainment industry in Nigeria (after Nollywood and Music), worth N50 billion annually.

Now in its third generation phase, the comedy industry has grown in recent years and amassed wealth - with some comedians earning below or up to 500 million Naira in endorsements and contracts both locally and internationally from brands like Globacom, MTN, Virgin Atlantic, Indomie, and Coca Cola (Taiwo, 2017; Augoye, 2017).

Rich Nigerian comedians have taken it a notch higher by hosting independent comedy shows and competitions in Nigeria and abroad. Such as Opa William's Nite of a Thousand Laughs brought many of the popular names in the industry, like Basket mouth and others.

Another example of comedy shows is "Basketmouth's Uncensored "(records N100 million annually (Vanguard, 2014)), AY's Open Mic Competition, and Ali Baba's Spontaneity Comedy Talent Hunt & January 1st event.

As the industry metamorphosis, many of these comedians or skit makers have gone digital and veered toward Nollywood production.

With the likes of Ayo Makun in "Merry Men," Bovi in "My Village People," and Basket mouth in "My Flatmates," it is obvious that the Nollywood industry and comedy share a bond.

In the past, we have seen stand-up comedy nights with tickets of N1.5 million for a table of six and the cheapest going for N5k- this information eulogizes the financial stability that comes with the job.

It is no wonder that top comedians in the country have become moneybags with mansions in Banana Island and vacation trips in some of the top 10 most expensive hotels in Nigeria.
