Earlier, the Nigerian Communications Commission issued a two-week ultimatum to telecommunication operators to block all SIM cards not registered with the National Identity Numbers.
The importance of the National Identification Number NIN cannot be overemphasized as the Federal Government has also directed the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) that subsequent driver's licence must be processed using NIN.

If you have enrolled for the national ID card scheme, you can check your NIN by dialling the recommended USSD on the phone number associated with your NIN enrollment.
NIMC's USSD service enables you to retrieve or check your NIN using your mobile phone conveniently.
You can Check your NIN on your phone by following the process below:
- Go to your phone dialer and dial *346#
- The prompt reply will display two options "reply with 1 for 'NIN retrieval' or 2 for 'Cancel'"
- Follow the steps shown on your screen and provide the required inputs to retrieve your NIN
You can check your NIN by dialling the recommended USSD on your phone.
Ensure you have at least N20 airtime on your mobile phone before checking your NIN with the USSD code.
